1 Microsoft Team Has a Salary Band Nearly 2 Times Higher Than the Rest, New Data Shows 

Salary details voluntarily disclosed by 600 Microsoft employees show some surprising discrepancies within the tech company.

An internal spreadsheet detailing the salaries of nearly 600 Microsoft employees shows that some of the company’s highest-ranking engineers and technical leaders reported base salaries of up to $280,000 a year, more than double the $111,000 to $134,000 reported by many entry-level workers.

The employee-created document, leaked to Business Insider, includes self-reported information on base salaries, raises, cash bonuses, and stock awards. The leak comes as the Redmond, Washington-based tech giant has stepped up its search for AI-focused talent, despite thousands of layoffs earlier this year.

Microsoft organizes most technical employees into a career ladder composed of Levels 59 through 67, ranging from entry-level technical workers to principal engineers and director-level leaders. Compensation generally rises commensurate with seniority and managerial or technical responsibilities.

The leaked spreadsheet shows Level 59 employees reporting annual salaries of $111,000 to $134,000.

At Level 64, the range rises to between $140,000 and $245,000.

Senior employees at Level 67 reported salaries of $239,100 to $280,000 a year, more than double the entry-level pay at Level 59.
